World’s Ugliest Dog contestants over the years
Dogs are the favorites of humans for a variety of reasons. They’re loyal, playful, affectionate, and are very cute usually. But not all man’s best friend is always the best-looking. Many dogs lack the fluffy fur and adorable faces when compared to the popular breeds.
While these odd-looking dogs may receive fewer likes and shares on social media, they are still worthy of recognition. The Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, holds the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest each year, to celebrates less conventionally cute companions. Dog owners from around the world bring their unattractive pets to compete in this competition.
Though many types of dogs try to claim the title of Ugliest Dog, ‘the Chinese crested’ is the unique one breed that is seen to rule these unsightly canines. From the time the World’s Ugliest Dog Contest was initiated in the 1970s, the winner has been either a purebred or part Chinese crested for at least 22 times.
The Chinese crested breed is small, mostly hairless, and are prone to buggy eyes which is not a recipe for cuteness. The American Kennel Club describes this breed as a “frolicsome and ultra-affectionate companion dog.”
This article highlights some of the World’s Ugliest Dog s. These puppies may or may not have won the contest but were some of the top contenders.
